Background: I went to Chad in August 2007 to do some reporting from the camps for refugees from Darfur. While I was there I met a group of rape survivors. They had all been captured and enslaved for differing lengths of time. Their testimonies stuck with me. I began to read more about the epidemic levels of sexual violence in conflict (and post-conflict) zones around the world. I have embarked on a reporting project to better understand where and why this happens and what the medical, humanitarian, legal, political and military response looks like (and how it measures up). Here are links to the stories I have done so far. (Some of these stories won a 2008 Dart Award for Excellence in Coverage of Trauma.)
