How Wars End aired October 6-10, 2008
This is a five-part series which looks at the current Iraq war, the American Civil War, World War I, the 1991 Gulf War and the war in Bosnia. I set out to do a project about how wars end in a technical sense: literally what factors have to be in play for the shooting to stop. But what I ended up with was more of a meditation on how we remember endings and what they come to mean over time. The project won the 2008 Lowell Thomas Award for best radio news or interpretation of international affairs from the Overseas Press Club of America.
